Thursday, 15th June at 5:30 PM
The Museum of Bath Architecture (enter through doors on the left hand side of building)

Houses built since 1945 contribute to over half of B&NES’s building stock. These dwellings are functional, spacious, light and adaptable to achieve contemporary, liveable, low carbon homes.Join BPT as we delve deep into one architects mission to make mid-century modern fit for the future without compromise to finish.

Architect Ian Walker at CASA Architects Bath will talk us through the retrofit journey for his much loved home at Bradford Road, with an opportunity to discuss the thinking behind solutions for mid-century homes with Ian and BPT’s CEO Alex Sherman.

Winner of the Architects Journal Retrofit Award ‘House  up to £500,000’  this project demonstrates excellent sustainability focussed design that respects the qualities of mid-century architecture.

Bradford Rd is an exemplary retrofit project demonstrating that with good design it’s possible to totally transform a very ordinary, poorly performing 1930’s bungalow into a beautiful, contemporary, highly sustainable home. Built to Passivhaus principles, with a more than 90% improvement in energy in use, this project has not only improved the building fabrics performance but increased the houses connection to nature improving both comfort levels and wellbeing.

Note: Doors will open at 5:00 PM for a 5:30 PM start. There will be a bar available for purchasing wine, beer, and soft drinks before and after the event for those who wish to network and/or explore the museum.

This event is not available for sale.
