With Geoff Rich, Partner, Director of Heritage & Creative Reuse FCB Studio
Geoff Rich, Architect and Partner at Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios shares the story behind this multi award winning project and exemplar of sustainable refurbishment. The repair and adaptive re-use of one of the most important buildings of the industrial revolution has delivered a low-carbon, mixed-use development and a catalyst for the economic regeneration of this area of Shrewsbury. The project demonstrates light touch conservation and contemporary adaptation to provide four levels of flexible working space, a visitor centre and café, and a brilliant heritage skills programme.
Geoff Rich leads FCB’s heritage and creative reuse work. He is passionate about the benefits of retaining and reusing historic and existing buildings, conserving and celebrating our heritage, and weaving new with old to make sustainable, joyful buildings for contemporary life.
He lectures on sustainable design, conservation and reuse at a number of universities, sits on the Historic England Historic Places Panel, the Design West Review Panel, and is a Design Council Expert.
Accessibility
The entrance, shop, museum, exhibition and event space are all level access. Assistance dogs are welcome. Unfortunately, the museum toilets are located up three steps and then down a flight of stairs and there is no lift available.
