Event Date: 21/07/2025

Join curator Izzy Wall for a special Members’ talk introducing the new temporary exhibition ‘The Most Tiresome Place in the World’: Jane Austen & Bath that opens on 5th July.
Refreshments will be served in the Servants Hall, and Izzy will discuss Jane Austen’s complicated relationship with Bath, before attendees have the opportunity to visit the exhibition itself.
Jane Austen lived in Bath between 1801 and 1806, and the city features prominently in two of her novels: Persuasion and Northanger Abbey. The scandals and shallowness of the city fueled the classic author’s cynicism and wit; nothing escaped her scathing pen – and yet she wrote very little whilst actually living in the city.
21st July 2025 - No.1 Royal Crescent, Servants' Hall
Doors will open 14.45 and talk will start at 15.00 and last for about 30 minutes, before an opportunity to visit the exhibition.
Event is free for Members of Bath Preservation Trust, but booking is essential
